The Image Processing and Communications group performs fundamental research in various domains covering the design of sparse signal representations, coding theory and image processing methods for multimodal sensor processing. This research has seeded many innovations and delivered state-of-the-art contributions in various domains, such as scalable image and video coding, volumetric coding, 3D graphics compression, distributed video coding, lightweight data compression, joint source and channel coding, multiple description coding, and communication protocol engineering.
The team is currently focusing on the design of efficient representation, processing, transmission and visualization techniques for distributed visual processing, 3D video, 3D graphics, and holography.
