Embedded Systems Lab
Designing and developing a generic platform for swarm embedded intelligence.

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is an aircraft without a human pilot on board. Its flight is either controlled autonomously by computers in the vehicle, or under the remote control of a navigator, or pilot on the ground or in another vehicle. UAVs are becoming vital platforms because they significantly reduce the risk of human life while accomplishing important missions. UAV's are already used extensively in military applications, but also more and more civilian applications are detected, such as search and rescue, firefighting and security work in general such as surveillance of pipelines. UAVs are often preferred for missions that are too 'dull, dirty, or dangerous' for manned aircraft. Also, the use of it reduces considerably the cost for an operation.Next step is to make many UAVs acting together as a swarm, The swarm should be able to act autonomously while searching for information and relaying it to all swarm members.A lot of UAV are quad-copters or classic airplanes. EmS-Lab focusses on special designs and flight environments. We actually concentrate on indoor flights were GPS is not available. the ultimate aim is to design and provide a generic distributed embedded system platform supporting different swarm strategies. The video shows the first trials of a small indoor UAV.
