Abstract: La Tabacalera is undoubtedly a cultural phenomenon in its context. Emerged as the occupation of a building in Downtown Madrid and after a year became a multicultural meeting place for all inhabitants of Embajadores and Lavapies, both neighborhoods known for its ethnic and cultural diversity. Today not only serves as a center for artistic development, but also as a social support infrastructure offering multiple services of community interest, of great value and importance to people who have come to rely on its facilities: Today Tabacalera offers training courses, workshops, art events, shows, organic vegetables growing communities, among others.
The hangar is undoubtedly the heart of the facility and is used for mass activities. Unfortunately, its acoustics are poor, because its original function was to be a hangar of Madrid's Tobacco Factory. As nowadays its use to communicate, is imperative to propose acoustic solutions to its facilities. This project proposes a plan that fits into the context of the enclosure: As a self-managed cultural center, it has no budget and its managers wants that the hangar keeps its multi- disciplinary use and don't lose its identity. The study, in addition to successful results, has a range greater than stated: It meets the stated objectives, help to reorganize people's flow in the area and proposes new structures that make possible new proposals, such as designing a lighting system, a very necessary item in today's hangar infrastructure.
