Abstract: Nowadays, many Internet of Things (IoT) applications have been emerging as innovative solutions for daily life issues, in different fields such as smart cities, environmental surveillance, health care, traffic monitoring, etc. However, most of these solutions are built in a vertical way using proprietary solutions, which increase heterogeneity problems. To solve this issue, many research works have focused on middleware solutions. Nevertheless, such approaches have some kind of limitations. Throughout this work, we have designed and implemented a middleware based on service oriented architecture, capable to deal with the heterogeneity issues. The solution was implemented in three steps starting by collecting data from many heterogeneous sensors hardware using REST API, then heterogeneous networking interfaces have been introduced and finally the middleware have been tested on gateways working on different operating systems.
